As we enter this New Year of God's grace, we have another opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of excellence in our ministry of service and teaching. God gave us his best on Calvary, and we can do no less. As we look toward the Lenten Season, let us deny ourselves and take on a spirit of excellence.

We are commanded by the word of God to grow! We should not be at the same spiritual level we were 2, 5, or 10 years ago. Our service in 1999 should be better than it was in 1998. We all have areas in which we can improve. As a collective, let all of us commit to and encourage one another to arrive at 9 A.M. or no later than 9:20 A.M., on Sunday morning. We recognize that there are times when unforeseen circumstances arise, but lateness should be the exception and not the rule. When we are late, we:

(1) deprive our students of quality study time (2) set a poor work example for our students (3) demonstrate a lack of caring or boredom with our ministry, and (4) cause others to have to carry our slack.

In our strength, we can do little, but if we surrender our will to God, we can do all things through Christ Jesus, which strengthens us.

Please remember to submit 10 questions and answers with scripture references to the Church School Secretary by Sunday, January 24th for the Bible Bowl. Debbie Griffin will be presenting a workshop this Saturday, January 23rd, on teaching techniques 10:00 A.M. - 12 Noon. Please plan on attending.

Each class is responsible for developing a presentation for our Resurrection Celebration. The theme is, 'Behold the Lamb'. The Adult class has committed to doing a dramatization of the Last Supper. Our children are eager to perform again. Let's capitalize on the enthusiasm. Remember whatever you do, they must learn their parts, no reading from papers. That means you have to rehearse with them and help them to study their parts, in order for them to achieve their potential.
